Read from the source
Every claim here is read from the institution's own published records, or from the regulator's. None of it comes from a prospectus or an aggregator.
Gaps are stated, not filled
Where we could not establish something, the page says so. Some institutions have no fee we can publish, and we say that rather than quote a figure we cannot stand behind.
Nobody can buy a position
No institution can pay to change where it appears, how it is described, or whether it is on the list at all.
Your subject decides, not our preference
You tell us what you want to learn. We look for who teaches it, and the shortlist follows your area of interest rather than the biggest name on the list.
Help with choosing and applying
We will help you compare institutions and put an application together. Whether you are accepted is the institution's decision alone.
Ordered by rank, not by us
The institution list is ordered by NIRF rank, so you can check the order against the regulator's own table instead of taking ours on trust.
Your next degree, online.
Every university here teaches online. Before you apply, we check your exact programme and your intake year, not just the university.

This ranking is by NIRF 2025, the government's University category. It is not NIRF's Overall ranking, which is a different table with different positions.
Why choose an online course? You pay for the course, not the move.
No average and no estimate. Every figure here is tuition a university printed on its own fee page.
Online tuition, as these universities publish it
Tuition only, in the unit its publisher attached. Other charges are on each university's own profile.
No hostel, no new city.
A room and a second rent are not on the bill.
Your income does not pause.
You study from where you already work.
The classroom arrives.
Live and recorded classes, material, a portal.
Questions students ask before they apply.
Answered from the regulator's own record and from the universities' own pages, not from what is generally said.
What does the UGC-DEB record actually say?
UGC-DEB publishes a record, one academic session at a time, of the programmes each institution is listed for in online mode. An entry for one session says nothing about another, which is why the session matters more than the fact of a listing. Every profile here names the academic year of the record read for it and the mode that record lists. For the current sessions the register prints a single value for online mode and does not separate the terms it once used, so a listing cannot be read as a grade.
Is distance learning the same as online?
No. They are separate modes on the same register, with their own rules, and some of these universities are listed for both. A programme listed in one mode is not the same programme in the other. Where a university carries a distance listing as well, its profile here says so, and says which list the programmes beneath it belong to.
Is there an entrance examination?
Usually not, but it is set per award and not per university. Several state on an award's own page that there is no entrance test and no age limit, and some state that the common management admission tests are not mandatory. Others do set one: one requires an admission test where the degree marks fall below its threshold, and one admits solely on the strength of an entrance test it conducts itself. Each profile here prints the entry requirement beside the award it belongs to.
What do you need before you apply?
UGC-DEB requires a learner to hold a valid DEB-ID, created from an ABC-ID, before admission to an online or open and distance learning programme. It is the learner's own identifier. Beyond that, each university sets its own entry requirement for each award, and its profile here prints that requirement beside the award.
Can you apply while still in your final year?
At several of them, yes. Some state that an applicant in a final year may apply on the results of the latest completed semester, and one states that an admission granted that way stays provisional until the original result certificates are submitted. Where a university publishes that condition, its profile here carries it with the award's entry requirement.
Can an application still be refused after the fee is paid?
Yes. Where a university publishes the grounds on which an application fails, the commonest is document verification, which is the step at which admission is confirmed rather than claimed. A qualification earned outside India can need a certificate of equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities, and an applicant without a required subject at school or degree level can be held to a bridge course. A seat exists after the university has decided, not when the fee was paid.
Who awards the degree when one website sells several universities?
Not necessarily the brand on the portal. Some of these programmes are sold through a storefront that carries more than one university, and the awarding institution is the one named on the individual programme page rather than the one on the banner. Check that page before you pay, and do not let a fee, a ranking or a course carry over from a sibling institution. Where a university sells through a shared storefront, its profile here names the storefront and who else it carries.
Can this be studied alongside a job?
Often, but look at the week before assuming it. Where a university publishes what it expects week by week, it can be a live session for each course, about an hour a week for each subject, weekly quizzes, compulsory assignments, or a minimum level of participation across the whole programme. Every profile here records what that university states it provides and what it expects of a learner.
Not sure yet? Talk it through.
A counsellor can talk the options through with you, whichever college you are looking at.
Asking a question is not an application. The institution decides admission.
